Allan lives in Crown Heights in one of HSVS’ Supported Housing apartments. For Allan, his apartment reduced his risk of homelessness and provided him with crucial time and support to help him get his life back on track. “I was provided the necessities—shelter, food and clothing,” Allan recalled. “The agency placed value in my future.” HSVS ensured that Allan had a constant support network and paired him with a roommate who could relate to his struggles.

Today, Allan is equipped with growing financial independence and dreams of attending automotive school. Allan also was connected with HSVS counselors who continue to provide him with the advice he needs to accomplish his life goals. The stability and encouragement he received from his HSVS’ counselors has made a lasting impact on Allan. He has started the process to become a certified counselor. “It’s about relating to someone in order to provide them with the strategies and tools that worked successfully in my life,” Allan said. “There are always steps to where you want to go, and there’s no reason not to get there.”
