Junior Board

Joy M. Purcell is a founding member of the HSVS Junior Board and serves on the Volunteer Engagement Committee. Joy is currently employed by the U.S. Department of Education Office for Civil Rights (OCR), where she investigates civil rights complaints involving educational institutions. Prior to joining OCR, Joy represented the parents and caregivers of children with special needs, many of whom were involved in or at risk of entering the child welfare system, at a legal services organization in Washington, D.C.  Joy has a longstanding commitment to social justice and views her role as a Junior Board member as an opportunity to engage with and support the most vulnerable members of our community in New York.  Joy graduated from New York University with a Bachelor’s degree in Politics and Latin American Studies and received her J.D. from the University of Miami School of Law.
